Raw material for coconut oil is abundantly available locally than refined palm, sunflower, rice barn oils. Being unrefined oil, it is naturally pure, chemical- free, and retains vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients.
Common Adulterants
Mineral oil, vegetable oils, coloring, or flavoring agents are often added to mimic pure coconut oil. Many use inferior, sulfur-smoked copra to reduce costs a practice that compromises both quality and purity.
Alternatives
Refined oils are acceptable for cooking, but choose a trusted brand. During the refining, 'Hexane'- a chemical solvent used for extraction - can be left as a residue, making oil quality highly dependent on the manufacturer. Refining will also drastically reduce the oil's nutritional values.
